Relation During Books Balthasar's Odyssey

I bought this book in a charity shop for £1 because I liked the cover. What a bargain! I loved this tale which revolves around the fears of ordinary people that the world would end in 1666 - The Year of the Beast. I enjoyed the diary format and became quite fond of the diary writer. He was sometimes a pompous man but because he was only writing his journal for himself, he wrote down all his insecurities, worries, etc without reservation and that is how we come to know the real man. It's sometimes funny, sometimes quite moving, never boring and entertaining throughout. I'll happily recommend it as a really good read.

Weigh Up Regarding Books Balthasar's Odyssey
A great story by the great writer amin Maalouf. Like always Maalouf give us a glimpse about the old world the year 1666 ( the year of the beast ) and the connection existing between the east and the west. Family love and friendship. With the eyes of a Genoa-man leaving in the east, and traveling the known world in searching of a book and reaching his destiny.

A wonderfully written historical novel. An adventure about beliefs - choices, decisions and of course, fates. Don't expect to find answers in this book but questions, that some of us may not admit to have been asked within ourselves. Read it with an open mind. A good read.

Absolutely fantastic. This book is on my favorites list.

This is a really strange book. When I read it I enjoyed it, but when I put it down I didn't feel the need to pick it up again. Consequently it took me 3 sittings spread over 12 weeks to get to the end. Why should this be? I think because there's nothing compelling in the story that drives it forward. There is only Balthasar who - in the middle of the world-may-end, just-met-the-love-of-life, and how-many-fantastical-things-can-happen-to-one-man - adventures just doesn't quite make it off the

The journey of Baldassare. The journey is starts from Lebanon then continues at Istanbul, Izmir and London at the end will be conclusion at Geneva. Impressive expression as always from Amin Maalouf

The premise of the book was great. The year 1666 and the portents are all bleak - the end of the world is nigh. There are some further signs with an eccentric Messiah challenging the power of Constantinople, London burning, plague and general ill feeling. In the middle of all this depression, Balthasar goes looking for a book that supposedly holds the key of salvation - the unknown 10oth name for God.Unfortunately, Balthasar was a rich, educated shallow coward who hoped his money would buy him

[screams into the void] I'd probably never choose to read this book on my own, a book in which so much and yet so little happens. maybe i'll put my academic review up here later.
