This is a plodding effort by Archer. He has tried this formula before, the story of two men who become competitors.Agree with one reviewer, who says "how many times can you write Kane and Abel" ? Yet,Archer's books somehow keep on becoming bestsellers.Read this for the second time .. (had read it five years ago as per Goodreads ).. Also I didn't remember anything more than the names of the lead characters... ..This time I learnt a lot from the corporate battle of the two powerful businessman and also where they went wrong.. 😋 I got a good idea of how their world world works.... 😜 ..I also learnt a lot of new things about Britishers😉 (always expected from the archer's books). Lot of research as usual, this time on media industry, newspaper
It has all the markings of vintage Archer. Two men : one rich and one poor start building global empires and come face to face against each other. Long winded story line of greed, money and the race for power. The makings are very similar to Kane and Abel but here the business empire is narrowed to only the media. Pretty fast read and beyond entertaining you for a few hours, there ins't much to it.Now that we are on the topic, it is also the tale of two first class, solid gold, shining as bright

I enjoy Archer for light relief and he writes great characters. This one is pretty good, not his best, and I struggled with some of the plot lines, particularly near the end.
I had this book at my house. Not sure where it came from. It is a older book by this author. I enjoyed reading it. It had a good story to it. I like the variety of characters in it. I hope to read more books by this author.
I gave up half way through the book. I found no enjoyment reading about two aggressive & greedy men trying to control the publishing game.
